Programme Overview
Patronage
Aviation is a high-tech sector with impressive growth rates and a bright future. Everywhere in the world governments try to attract a substantial part of this fascinating industry to their country. As the minister of economic affairs in the state of Brandenburg I may say that we have been very successful: The Capital Region Berlin-Brandenburg can proudly claim to be one of the most competitive aviation manufacturing, service and training locations in Germany.
To be successful on the international markets the aviation industry needs qualified labour – on the mechanic level as well as on the engineer level. Although we suffer from a significant unemployment rate we are still unable to fill all vacancies the aviation industry has to offer. On the other hand the growth potential in air travel and air cargo – and therefore demand for air transport, aircraft and all connected activities – looks secure in the long-term.
To build and maintain a high-quality workforce inside this complicated framework is a formidable task for the human resource managers in the relevant companies as well as for the universities and the training institutions. I am glad that the conference "Human Resource Management in European Aviation" offers an opportunity to discuss some innovative strategies for tomorrow.
